TBB.news covers the world across eight sections — not because breadth is a virtue in itself, but because the stories that matter rarely stay inside one of them.
The name
TBB.news stands for The Bay of Bengal News. The masthead is a nod to where the newsroom sits — the coastline it is published from, and the water that has moved people, goods and weather across this part of the world for as long as there has been a record of it.
It is not a limit on what we cover. A bay is a place things arrive from, and our reporting follows the story wherever it goes: a customs ruling in one country, a research finding in another, a match played somewhere else entirely. The name says where we stand, not where we look.
Why we exist
A customs system is a business story until you follow it to the people who lost a season’s income, and then it is a politics story about who signed it off. A study of birdsong is a science story until it becomes a question about traffic policy. We are set up to follow a story across that line rather than hand it to another desk and lose it.
We were founded in 2026 on a simple bet: that there is an audience for reporting that takes longer, says what it does not know, and does not mistake volume for significance.
What we cover
Foreign affairs, conflict, migration and diplomacy.
Government, parliament, elections and the machinery of power.
Economy, markets, labour, trade and the companies that shape them.
Computing, connectivity, platforms and their consequences.
Research, environment, energy and the natural world.
Medicine, public health, care systems and wellbeing.
Competition, the business of sport, and the people who play it.
Film, music, books, art, food and the way we live.
Across all of them we favour the same kind of story: one where a document, a dataset or a fortnight of reporting produces something you could not have guessed from the press release.
How we work
We report from the ground where we can and say so plainly when we cannot. We name our sources unless naming them would put someone at risk, and when we grant anonymity we explain why in the story itself. We do not publish a claim about a person or institution without giving them a real opportunity to respond, and we record in the piece when that opportunity went unanswered.
When we are wrong, we correct it in the open. Our corrections policy sets out how, and how to make us do it. Our editorial standards cover the rest — sourcing, conflicts of interest, images, and how we use and disclose AI.
What we are not
We do not do rolling coverage, and we will not be first with a story we cannot yet stand up. We do not publish opinion dressed as reporting. We do not run aggregation, rewrites of other outlets’ work, or pieces commissioned to rank in search results.
There is no comment section, deliberately. We would rather receive one considered email than moderate a thousand replies — write to us and a person will read it.
Independence
TBB.news is independently owned. We take no funding from any government or political party, and we will disclose the source of any grant or institutional funding on this page before it affects a line of reporting.
We have no paywall and no advertising at present. If that changes it will be announced here first, with the terms stated in full.
